Beijing Christian human rights defender and lawyer,
Dai Jinbo, was summoned for one and an half hour interrogation by
the state security police of Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau. Dai
Jinbo is a staff of the Beijing Shengshan Christian Institute, and has
been actively involved in human rights work.
On the afternoon of March 6, after Beijing legal academic and house
church leader, Dr. Fan Yafeng, was taken away by the police, Dai went to
the Shuangyushu police station to find out about Fan’s situation and also
intended to deliver him some food. This however provoked the head of the
station and he attempted to interrogate Dai. As this was opposed by many
others who went to support Dr. Fan, the interrogation didn’t proceed.
On March 9 morning, Dai Jinbo received
a phone call from a state security police officer of the Beijing
Municipal Public Security Bureau, calling upon Dai to have a
“conversation” at 2pm that afternoon, at the Beitaipingzhuang police
station in Haidian District. The officer warned Dai that if he did not
come, they would issue a summon. As Dai refused to go without receiving a
proper summons, the police promised to give him the document when they
met up at the police station, and hence, Dai went to the station.
However, the police didn’t issue any summons to him.
Moreover, Dai found out on March 10, 2010 that
the police station of the place where his parents are living has
initiated an investigation of his family, with a claim that Dai is
suspected of a criminal offence.
Nonetheless, it is believed that the
authorities are monitoring Dai and other human rights defenders.
Dr. Fan Yafeng was taken away by state
security police (guobao) and public security officers from Shuangyushu
police station in Haidian District in Beijing at 4:45pm on 6 March 2010 as
he insisted to go to have dinner with a Spanish journalist. He was
released on March 10th
Dr. Fan was dismissed from his position as an
associate researcher with the Institute of Law of the Chinese Academy of
Social Sciences for “political reasons” on 3 November 2009, ending his
six years of research work at the institute. According to sources, his
dismissal was related to his involvement with Christian house church
activities.
