Human rights lawyer and defendant of FARC prisoner Rodrigo Granda Escobar, Ernesto Moreno Gordillo, has been shot by gunmen in Bogota. Gordillo was a member of the Colombian Association of Democratic Jurists.

The attack took place at about 7.30am in the barrio of El Tunal in Bogota, as Moreno hailed a taxi outside his house.

Moreno Gordillo was shot in the leg, the arm and the face. He remains in the local hospital, where his condition is described as stable, according to local police.

The lawyer is well known for his work in defending political prisoners, and he is part of the team defending Rodrigo Granda who was captured in shady circumstances last December in Caracas, Venezuela. He was apparently kidnapped in Venezuela before being transferred illegally to Colombia. The operation that led to Granda’s capture caused a diplomatic crisis between Colombia and Venezuela. He is currently in prison in Combita, Boyaca.
