René Gomez Manzano and journalist Roberto de Jesus Guerra, began a
hunger strike since July 13th of this in protest, requesting due process in a
Cuban tribunal. On July 25, Juan Carlos González Leiva,
attorney and president of the Cuban Human Rights Foundation sends and international
SOS for the life and ill health of the attorney René Gomez Manzano and
independent journalist Gonzalez Leiva,
the president of the Abogados Agramontistas de Cuba, René Gómez Manzano and
the independent journalist Roberto de Jesus Guerra are presently very ill in
the infirmary of the prison Nieves Morejón in Sancti Spiritus, as a
consequence of the hunger strike they began last July 13th, in protest,
requesting due process in a Cuban tribunal. Both activists remain in Cuban prisons
along with more than 50 opponents pending to be tried, some of them have been
waiting in jail to be arraigned for over three years now. The Cuban Human Rights Foundation holds
the Cuban Government responsible for the life and health of both activists. Background

activity was being held outside The French Embassy in RECOMMENDED ACTION: Please send telegrams/telexes/faxes/express/ airmail letters: -
urging that Rene Gomez Manzano and Roberto de Jesus Guerra be
immediately and unconditionally released, on the grounds that they are
prisoners of conscience, detained solely for peacefully exercising their
rights to freedom of expression, association and assembly; -
urging to respect freedom of expression and freedom
of association and to immediately release all of those imprisoned for their
efforts to promote basic human rights in -
asking the authorities to
conform to the provisions of the Declaration on Humans Rights Defenders,
adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 9, APPEALS TO :
PLEASE SEND APPEALS IMMEDIATELY. |
